Road Trip 2025
Taking a cross country road trip with Mom...moving her from Naschitti, New Mexico to Mimi's in Georgia.
I've been with her for 6 days - we spent the majority of it packing her house up and getting all her things in order.
While running around the area between Gallup & Mom's - I saw a Tumbling Tumbleweed!!!! A first in my whole life. Like...I've seen them before obviously but never actually rolling down the street.
Cool things we saw today -
Wild horses on the mesa by Mom's house as we were leaving. Her & I both firmly believe they were saying goodbye as they were not on that mesa 10 minutes prior when we passed it going to the post office.
A baby black wild boar....we scared him driving by and he hopped his cutie patootie self back up the mountain.
Mutant Bluejays with obnoxiously long tail feathers
Fuzzy trunk palm/cactus with alien antenna
I learned what a gulch is.......I thought it was a made up word my whole life.
A black & a tan/white llama on a ranch.
So many crows....everywhere along our route
The mountains! We went through Apache National Forest and Gila National Forest.
There was a super cool Dead & Mute Youth Camp in the mountains also.....it looked like such an amazing place to be.
Feb 1 - Day 2 - we left NM and got into TX today. We saw:
Giant cactus/palms that have weird alien antenna coming up out of them.
A group of male rams were literally just chilling by the side of the road.
We went through a Border Patrol stop and Mom about lost her mind over the novelty of it all. Lmao - she asked the guy if he could stamp her passport.
Day 3 - Feb 2nd
Puxatawney Phil saw his shadow....6 more weeks of winter despite the dact that i am currently sitting in 85 degree weather in South Texas 🤣
Our truck popped a check engine light and we now have to get a replacement....a tech came out to look at it and determined that it's more than likely an electrical issue. That could take hours to weeks to track down and we don't have the time to waste.
We're making the best of it....we have wine, food, water, and a room for the duration.
Day 4 & 5 -
Day 4 was spent in Ft. Stockton dealing with getting the new van and getting everything swapped over. Mom & I went to Walmart and found some fun things to do as well as finding a wonderful Mexican place to eat dinner. We were the only people in there when we got there and it was over half full by the time we left. Early bedtime so we can hit the road early.
Day 5 - got to the East side of San Antonio....we stopped in Sealy, TX for the night. Mom had her first experience at a Buc-cee's and she loved it!!! We picked out some trinkets for the "Grands" with Texas themes. It's 930 and I am ready to just die....I'm so tired.
Day 6 -
Finally left Texas today!!!! We were back on the road before 8am and it took us 2.5 hours to get through Houston. Got pics of the skyline, the state flag, beer factories, nature, etc
Crossed into Louisiana where I drove.....across the longest bridge I have ever been on in my entire life.
We saw marsh land and swamps. We stopped at the visitor center and got maps, pics, and took the opportunity to stretch our legs. There was a mini nature trail and we saw fish, turtles, and an assortment of birds.
We tried to get to Sidell but only hit W Baton Rouge tonight....just under 350 miles and 700 miles to go.
Shitty hotel & lackluster food.......to bed cause we're gonna hit it early tomorrow.
